PARISH SERVICES
Home Visitation
Arrangements can be made for visitation of homebound parishioners by calling the Cathedral Center.
Mass Intentions
Anyone may request a Mass to be said for a deceased family member or friend. Intentions are printed weekly in the church bulletin. Intentions are not accepted on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, All Souls Day, or Christmas. Please only request one Mass Intention per week (Monday – Sunday) for each deceased and please note that Mass Intentions cannot be taken over the phone.
To request an intention, please mail this form along with stipends to:
Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist
ATTN: Mass Intentions
P. O. Drawer V
Lafayette, LA 70502.
If you wish to bring the form to the CathedralCenter, we would appreciate you doing so between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, to more easily comply with your request. Special dates should be requested at least two weeks in advance. If you wish confirmation of your intention, please enclose a self addressed, stamped envelope.
Prayer Requests
For special prayer requests other than for the deceased, you may call the CathedralCenter.
To Register as a Parishioner
We invite you to register as a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. You may either call the CathedralCenter or email our Parish Secretary, Danielle Huval.
To remain active on our census, we encourage parishioners to participate in at least one of our Parish ministries, to offer financial support to the parish, and to attend Holy Mass regularly at the Cathedral.
Offering Envelopes
Any registered member of Cathedral Parish may request offering envelopes to help keep track of their contributions. Once requested, your envelopes will normally take two months to receive. An IRS tax statement of your donations will be mailed at the end of January to those who exceed the yearly donated amount of $50.
To obtain offertory envelopes, please contact the CathedralCenter.
Request for Certificates
Certificates for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage or Death can be requested at a charge of $10 per certificate. All requests must be accompanied with a Certificate Request Form and must be paid in advance.
Any request from the years 1750 thru 1912 must include a volume number and page number which can be found in the Southwest Louisiana Records by Fr. Donald Hebert (found at your library).
Our Cemetery Office and funeral homes in the immediate area work closely together to accommodate bereaved family members. Plots and niches for cremains are available for purchase. We are in the process of constructing a fourth mausoleum, Garden Mausoleum Phase II, which should be completed during the fall of 2010. To inquire about purchasing mausoleum crypt(s) please call the Acme Mausoleum representative at 337-984-9340. In the absence of the Cemetery Superintendent, the Cathedral Center receptionist can assist in answering questions regarding funeral schedules and finding out if certain person(s) are buried in the cemetery or if the funeral was held in our Cathedral Church. Genealogy questions are referred to the Archives Office.
