RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
These classes are presented annually for those desiring to become members of the Catholic Church. Classes are held on Sunday evenings from 6:00–8:30 p.m. Please call the Cathedral Center (337-232-1322) to register.
Our RCIA Program is also open to adult baptized Catholics who were not properly catechized or desire to receive a Sacrament such as Confirmation, First Confession, First Holy Communion or have their marriage blessed. In addition, we encourage the participation of adult baptized Catholics who desire to learn more about the Faith. Participation in the RCIA Program does not obligate anyone to become a member of the Catholic Church. It is our belief that to become a member of the Catholic Church one must first understand the basic Articles of the Faith, the Commandments, the Sacraments and Christian Prayer so that a rational foundation is built upon which to make a decision.
(CCD) Religious Education Classes
Pre-registration is required for the CCD and Sacramental programs at St. John Cathedral. If your child is attending a non-Catholic school, CCD classes are required in order for your child to receive any Sacraments (First Communion & Confirmation).
Your attention is called to the fact that Diocesan policy states that your child should receive the sacraments in your own church parish; however, you are allowed to have your child attend CCD classes in another parish. Also, your child can receive the sacraments in another parish with a letter of permission from your pastor. No letter of permission is required for your child if you reside within Cathedral Parish boundaries or if you have been a registered, active, participating parishioner, with written documentation of support to the parish, for at least one full year.

Teen Ministry
If your child is in ninth grade, part of his/her commitment will be to enroll in Cathedral Teen Ministry. This follows the policy that all Confirmation candidates must be enrolled in Teen Ministry for three years; they will confirm their third year (junior year).
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a program offered to all children of the parish ages 3-5 years during the 9:00 a.m. Mass each Sunday. Children’s Liturgy is the Liturgy suitably adapted to make it relevant to young children. Our program gives them the opportunity to understand the Gospel message and provides an activity to help them retain the stories, understand the various themes, and remember the Gospel message. Children are lead to the CathedralCenter after the opening prayer, and return to Church after the Prayers of the Faithful. This program is supported by parents with Diocesan Safe Environment training. There is no fee or registration required for the program.
Vacation Bible School
2013 program dates are June 10-14 from 8:30 AM -12:00 PM at Cathedral-Carmel School and is for children who will be enrolled in Pre-K through 4th grade in the Fall of 2013. Let your child enjoy the fun and enriching experience of Vacation Bible School. This program allows your child to learn more about his/her faith in a fun, creative way!
